Best of Canberra - Laksa

Pizza and burgers are all well and good if that’s what you’re in the mood for. But sometimes you need something a little more exotic to fill that gaping space in your tummy.

For our third ‘Best of Canberra’ post, we’re asking for the best place to get a Laksa.

That steaming bowl of spice-y, noodle-y, coconut-y goodness (so good we’re making up words…).

Where is your go to place for Laksa in Canberra? What makes it so good? Is it ‘the hotter the better’ or a ‘mild mix of flavour’ you’re after?

Note: The photo was the best we could find in our stock – this does by no means reflect our view of what a good Laksa should look like.

Another vote for the fishshack’s seafood laksa!

I’ve tried the one in Dickson, didn’t think it was that great. I think the one at Streets of Asia in Tuggeranong is decent for Canberra.

Dickson Asian Noodle House.

tak kee does a pretty decent one. +1 for the two sisters. have never been sold on dickson asian noodle house’s.

and very glad for the disclaimer on the pic accompanying the story!

Cafe Bamboo in Braddon has the BEST duck laksa in Canberra, and is generally one of the most underrated restaurants in Canberra.

Dumpling Inn in City, next to Paparich
(the new place with lots of guys wrapping dumplings – you can see the many staff in the kitchen through the see-through windows)
Their dumpling laksa is very good value!
You can ask for hand made noodles as well…

Dickson Asian Noodle House – the Jumbo Combination is to die for! That said, the Woden Asian Noodle House is a pretty good substitute when we just can’t travel too far for our laksa fix.

I have never tasted better than at DANH. I can just walk in, order as I arrive at the table and my duck laksa is ready in at most five minutes. No fancy table cloths, no fancy prices, just good laksa with the minimum of fuss.

Dickson Noodle House – the best. Accept none of the non-affiliated Noodle House franchise imposters!

Two Sisters in Dickson does brilliant laksa, arguably better than Noodle House, it has a richer soup.

Oddly, the Fish Shack. Not going to have everything you might want (like, say, chicken) but both seafood and vegetarian laksa are available.

Dickson Asian noodle house is definitely pretty fantastic, though more then one Malaysian friend of mine has mocked it for being a pretty westernized version of laksa. Take that how you will!
(it won’t stop me loving it)

Voting 1 for the institution that is the Noodle house Dickson. I also favor Pappa rich.
