The combination of being in a dark room gently lit with candles, calming soft music playing in the background and a healing touch certainly helps melt the stress away during a message. Taking this time out for yourself could be more than just stress reduction, it could be a necessity in order to maintain good health and vitality.
One of the immediate benefits of massage is a feeling of deep relaxation and calm. This occurs because massage prompts your body to release ‘happy hormones’ such as dopamine, serotonin, endorphins and oxytocin. This can lead to reduced pain, helping with anxiety and promoting a better nights’ sleep along with increasing the body’s immune system.
At Touch of Siam on the Kingston Foreshore, they offer luxurious treatments that centre around health and wellbeing that soothe the mind, body and soul. These treatments include a range of therapeutic massages to ease muscle tension and stress relief from traditional Thai, through to Hot Stone, Swedish and Aromatherapy massages.
Experts in their field, they have been awarded Luxury Boutique Spa of the Year for two years in a row in the annual Luxury Travel Guide Awards. The Luxury Travel Guide Awards are an international awards authority based in the United Kingdom. They represent the pinnacle of travel and tourism achievement, championing the best businesses in their respective fields.
Pam Leeladacha, Owner of Touch of Siam, says she is incredibly humbled and proud to be recognised as the leading boutique spa for the second time. “There’s no better feeling than being acknowledged for the work you dedicate yourself to. My staff and I work so hard to ensure we provide an outstanding offering to each and every one of our customers, from the moment they book their appointment to the moment they leave our salon after their treatment.”
Walking into Touch of Siam for my first ever therapeutic massage appointment, I am greeted by staff who assess my needs. Working in an office hunched over a desk staring at a computer screen day in and day out, I carry a lot of tension in my shoulders and back, which causes frequent tension headaches. To help alleviate those issues, it was recommended to try a 30-minute reflexology foot massage followed by a Hot Stone massage.
With the treatment decided upon, I am led through the doors into the back section of the salon where all the massage sessions are carried out. The area has been perfectly staged with ambient lighting and gently playing music to set the tone. There are private massage rooms along one side of the wall and in the centre, there is a shared space for the foot massages.
Touch of Siam highly recommends all their clients start their sessions with a foot massage. Office manager, Kitty said, “Our tensions are all in our feet, we stand on our feet every day. If you start with a foot massage it helps relieve the tensions in your body, it makes circulation flow and eases tiredness. We tend to forget, feet work hard every day and are often ignored.”
It was sage advice indeed, soaking my tired feet in warm water and having the expert therapist slowly work through the tensions up and down my legs was the perfect antidote to a busy week.
Already feeling very relaxed, next was the Hot Stone massage. A speciality massage where the therapist used smooth, heated stones throughout the session. She alternated between using the stones as an extension of her own hands to working through muscle tensions and placing them strategically on the body. The heat of the stones was profoundly comforting with the therapist saying they help warm up tight muscles so she can work more deeply.
Taking the time out for some self-care coupled with the instantaneous relief in tension I felt under the gentle pressure of the therapist working through my muscles with the hot stones made the experience the perfect combination of pampering and therapy.
