The Canberra Bonsai Society is letting us know about their upcoming exhibition as party of the 26th Association of Australian Bonsai Clubs National Bonsai Convention.
Over the last sixty years the Australian bonsai community has grown from enthusiasts working alone or in small, unconnected groups to a national community that is connected to the international bonsai community at many levels. During this time, the art of bonsai around the world has evolved to embrace new ideas and materials. Within Australia there has been an increasing appreciation of our diverse landscapes and use of Australian materials, especially our native plants, in a way that better evokes the Australian landscape.
An exhibition of over 50 bonsai by artists from Canberra and the surrounding regions is being held at Rydges Lakeside Hotel from 18-19 May 2013. The exhibition will showcase the breadth and diversity of the art of bonsai in Australia at present, including the traditions which have shaped our practice and the current influences.
This exhibition is being held in conjunction with the 26th Association of Australian Bonsai Clubs National Bonsai Convention, hosted by the Canberra Bonsai Society.
In addition to viewing the bonsai on display, visitors will be able to buy bonsai and starter plants from two major Sydney suppliers as well as pots and tools. They will also be able to vote for their favourite bonsai, and will be eligible for the lucky door prize.
