Brave Cooma girls call out alleged sexual assault

Two Cooma girls have been brave in the face an alleged sexual assault, with a man from Western Australia behind bars awaiting a court appearance today.

“Two girls, aged 13 and 14, were at a park on Sharp Street about 5:30 pm (Saturday, October 19) when they were approached by a man,” according to a statement from Police.

“Following a brief conversation, the younger girl was allegedly sexually touched while the man touched himself.”

After he walked away, the girls informed a relative who notified police.

“Officers from Monaro Police District attended the park and arrested a 49-year-old man. He was taken to Cooma Police Station and charged with intentionally sexually touch child, and intentionally do sexual act with child.”

The West Australian man appeared at Queanbeyan Local Court yesterday and was refused bail to reappear today.
