Break-in at the War Memorial

By bulldog - 28 July 2005 11

A source at the Australian War Memorial has told me that there has been a break-in last night. Haven’t been able to find any news reports yet, but I suspect we will get the deails this evening.

Allegedly a thief has entered the building through the front gates and made their way to the Hall of Valour where they have removed “Priceless Items”. Without knowing additional details at this stage it would indicate medals (including the Victoria Cross) have been stolen.

Needless to say this is a disgusting act.

Do any players have news on this to fill in the blanks?

What’s Your opinion?

You know you love me ##.

You look forward to my comments defending good old General Common Sense with stiff uppercuts and my trusty tin of ‘hardenup’.

It’s comments like yours SGS that really piss me off.

Be proud of your country or off. At the moment I’m supporting the second option as it applies in your case.

Agreed Spitfire.

I don’t think it’s an overdramatisation to call it an affront to the nation, Samuel. The AWM is possibly the most repected and esteemed national treasure Australia has.

The Police and the Army generally have good comraderie, I would suggest that a few burly lads might get ‘arrested’ and placed into the same cell as the poor troglodyte who can’t tell fake poppies from real ones.

It is an afront to the nation. It may be a museum, but it is also, and more importantly, a memorial…

I hope the smackheads that broke get caught and charged with something more than just breaking and entering.

As for a VC being stolen, I had’nt heard that.

And it was all over the radio news this morning, the RSL calling it “An afront to the nation” or something like that.
It is a low act, but the RSL have a knack for overdramatising these things.

ABC Online are reporting that the theft was limited to $40 from the pool.
