Bright Lights - Date City

In the last few years Canberra really has become a place where you can have a fun an interesting date, with Winter being probably one of the most interesting times of the year.

As a city we’re starting to more embrace Winter activities rather than expect people to retreat into their houses and emerge for the two weeks we actually have warm weather.

Firstly, I’m not a fan of the kind of activity where you can’t actually talk. Seeing a movie for a first date is an almost impossible situation to actually try to get to know someone, unless of course it starts or ends with dinner where you can have a conversation.

Here are my top ideas for different date nights depending on what side of town you live:-

City

If you’re more the active kind who would prefer to do something physical for a date I found Skate in the City a really good ice breaker. You can laugh at each other’s inability to stay upright, or like me have to get one of those penguin thingy’s for fear of breaking an ankle.

When you’re done you can then pop over to Dolce & Salato for a sweet treat and hot chocolate.

Kingston Foreshore

This trendy little spot provides another big date night tick for me! Not only do you have bars and restaurants, you have Max Brenner and a nice spot to stroll by the water to keep the date night going.

For a drink and a nibble try The Rum Bar or if you’re up for more of a meal you can’t go past Morks Restaurant.

Belconnen

You might not think Belconnen has anything interesting to offer in the way of date night, but if you’d prefer to stick to the north than head into the City or further south you can head to Ha Ha Bar for dinner followed up with drinks at La De Da.

I wouldn’t recommend a walk around the lake as at night it’s a lot less appealing!

Woden

My go to place for a date around the Woden area is Belluci’s. It has such a warm old school restaurant vibe. The food has always been good and the service great as well.

For something a little more quirky and laid back there’s the always charming A Bite to Eat at Chifley shops, either for a drink or dinner.

What have you done for date night before?

We only have two weeks of warm weather in Canberra ? Not sure where I was over summer this year then.

The colder it gets, the better hot chocolate tastes. A cocktail at Muddle Bar, then a stroll over to Koko Black with the option to stop for skating if everyone is feeling adventurous.
