The British & Irish Lions will play in Canberra in 2013.

Ticketbooth.org.uk says that Canberra is to be one of the cities to host the Lions.

The Lions will play a provincial match in Canberra on their tour of Australia.

They will play six provincial matches in other cities and three test matches in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

The date for the game in Canberra has not been released yet.

UPDATE: The ARU has put out a media release now:

The announcement was welcomed by ACT Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation Andrew Barr.

“The match between the Brumbies and the British and Irish Lions is not only great news for Rugby fans but also welcome news for Canberra’s tourism industry as elite sports contest provides compelling reasons for interstate visitors to come and stay in Canberra,” he said.

“This match will be another key sporting event for Canberra’s Centenary year in 2013 and will again focus the world’s attention on Canberra as Australia’s sporting capital and as a great place to visit.”

After the recent RWC and Barbarians efforts maybe they should be having a run against Wests or Gungahlin Eagles

Wests or Vikings would actually give them a run.
