The ACT Government will spend more than $5 million on the retrial of David Eastman for the murder of Colin Winchester and related proceedings in 2016-17 according to the ACT Budget papers.
The Justice and Community Safety Directorate’s expenses in relation to the retrial will total $3,371,000, divided between ACT Courts costs and those of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The Legal Aid Commission will receive $1,707,000 to cover its expenses in relation to the matter.
