Budget allocates $5m for Eastman retrial

The ACT Government will spend more than $5 million on the retrial of David Eastman for the murder of Colin Winchester and related proceedings in 2016-17 according to the ACT Budget papers.

The Justice and Community Safety Directorate’s expenses in relation to the retrial will total $3,371,000, divided between ACT Courts costs and those of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The Legal Aid Commission will receive $1,707,000 to cover its expenses in relation to the matter.

Great, what an awesome way to make sure our rates triple in time to meet the Libs’ prediction at the last election.
