Two Canberrans have won an early Christmas gift, each scoring $982,100.68 in Saturday’s (16 December) Lotto draw.
One Canberra man said he was “still spinning out” after realising he’d won a division one prize.
“It’s funny. I had two tickets… one of them won a smaller prize and I was stoked,” he said.
“And then I checked this one and I thought, ‘Holy sh-t! That can’t be right!'”
“I was fully spun out!
“You have no idea what this means to me.
“It’s a pretty decent prize – I’m not going to lie.
He said the money would allow him to buy a house.
“This is definitely the best way to start a new year!”
While a Wanniassa woman said she didn’t get a wink of sleep after checking her division one Lotto ticket before bed on Saturday.
“I couldn’t sleep. My brain just went into hyperdrive,” she said.
“I check my numbers every Saturday night. I don’t go to bed until I check my ticket.”
“This time, I just kept looking at it. I double-checked it four times until it sank in that there were all six numbers there.
“I think I sat there and cried.”
She said she’s already thought about what she’ll do with the money, planning on donating some to charity, helping her kids and family members, while treating herself along the way.
“I’m just thrilled.”
The man’s 12-game QuickPick ticket was bought online, while the woman’s 17-game entry was purchased at Erindale News N Gifts in Wanniassa.
