Recently on social media, I casually mentioned that I was pretty certain Canberra had the highest number of food bloggers per capita of any city in Australia. I was not exaggerating. It’s already documented that our fair city has the highest per capita density of cafes, restaurants and other types of food outlets. Apart from the fictional Tom, the kebab vendor, in The Code everyone in Canberra has only one degree of separation from a real life person in the local food business.
So if you didn’t read my last yarn about Canberra food, and you’re not aware of my slightly outdated list of 75 Canberra food bloggers and food websites, or my CBRfoodie Twitter list of Canberra foodie tweeters … Here’s a run-down of who’s who in the foodie blogger zoo.
The following list is based on a closed Facebook group of Canberra foodies. The group was established by one of this city’s most prolific and experienced food writers Liz Posmyk. If you’ve never met Liz or read her work you can easily get an insight into her love and appreciation of food and writing from her book The Barber From Budapest. Liz’s book is a powerful personal memoir of her father and mother, their lives as refugees, and how her mother nurtured the family with a delicious repertoire of Hungarian dishes – the recipes of which have been chronicled within the book. If you love European food you will love this book. If you’re a new Canberra food blogger and you’d like to join the Facebook Group – please get in touch with Liz, her contact details are at the top of the list below.
So readers, do you have a favourite Canberra food website, blogger or another source? Please share your favourite food advice sources in the comments below. And apologies if some of the links aren’t recent – they’re mostly copied straight from the sheet that the bloggers supplied to the Facebook group.
