Canberra gets a real one-dayer!

By johnboy - 20 April 2007 6

Yesterday Cricket Australia announced their schedule for the next cricket season. It contained a big but very welcome surprise.

“As well as the traditional international cricket venues, Canberra will host a Commonwealth Bank Series One-day international between India and Sri Lanka, the first since 1992 in the ACT and only the second in history. The details of the annual Prime Minister’s XI fixture in Canberra are still being finalised.”

Time to get training for the marathon beer drinking required.

I noticed there will be TV coverage of all games except the Women’s in Darwin (I won’t start on the lack of exposure for women’s cricket).

Tuesday should be a good day for cricket given public servants can just take a flex day.

A quick glance at the Wallchart shows that to be a Tuesday, good for me and fair go to the Sri Lankan fans – they were a good crowd when I went to Melbourne one dayer about 7 years ago so it promises to be a good day out.

I only got into cricket last season due to our thrilling ashes performance, after years of trying to avoid it. I might have to go along to see a game live.

Never seen Tendulkar get any reasonable score live. should be a good game, assuming that india can reform into a good team.

Could be a good match. the one time I have seen india live tendulkar got a duck and india got all out for 100. The only time I have seen sri-lanka play jayasuria destroyed the aussies.

yay! Now let’s hope it’s well supported (given the Australian side isn’t playing) & that they make it a regular thing. Maybe one day we could even see Australia play here.
