Canberra Youth Theatre’s Workshop Program provides a place where young and emerging artists can be creative and actively develop fundamental theatre performance skills. It is a fun and engaging program all about process. Through engagement in theatre games and exercises during weekly acting workshops, acting ensembles develop, extend and strengthen fundamental skills in improvisation, voice, movement, character, storytelling and theatre making in a variety of styles and structures.
The first few weeks of the workshop is spent discovering what skills the ensemble have, where their interests lie and what they hope to achieve through the workshop. This ensures that every semester is uniquely programmed to meet the specific needs/wants of the group and the opportunity for the ensemble to creatively express who they are.
Then, throughout the semester the ensemble focuses on developing and extending strong fundamentals in acting through a variety of skills and performance styles. They also work collaboratively with eachother and their tutor to create a short performance that implements these skills. At the end of the semester family and friends are invited to our C Block Theatre at Gorman Arts Centre to watch the performance.

Summer Holiday Drama Workshops:
We don’t know about you but, the hot weather tends to make CYT a little crazy so, we have decided to blow off some steam by launching a SUMMER TIME MADNESS school holiday drama workshop!
Bringing together a group of up to 16 young people, we offer two tutors across a week long drama program building skills and having fun with theatre. We cater for ages 7 through to 12 in a program designed to build confidence and theatre skills.
After a session of getting to know our young performers the workshop delves into teaching the key elements of performance and elements of a stage production through drama games and activities.
Throughout the week, the workshop will also work with their tutor to create a short 10 minute theatre piece to perform at the end of the week for our family and friends that implements the skills learnt over the 5 days!
By the end of the week our performers have increased their confidence and have learnt some fundamental skills in voice, movement, character and story!
All things CrEaTiVeLy MaD are WELCOME!!!
