Car goes through bedroom wall in Chifley

emd 1 February 2009 19

According to ABC News, this happened about 7:20am this morning.

I drove past just after 8am, and it looked like the car was a bit burnt out.

One of my neighbours said the owners had only recently finished renovating, must be very sad to see this happen to their home.

Hope nobody was hurt.

Who pays? I’m guessing it’s left to the insurance companies to sort out. Maybe if drivers had to pay, even if they have to take out a loan and spend the next twenty years paying it off, they might be a little more careful. It’s ridiculous how often that happens. I feel so sad for the homeowners.

I can’t help but think that they’d just declare bankruptcy if a court did rule that they owed a hundred thousand or so more than their assets were worth.

Wow – I actually drove past that a few hours after it happened, bu this stage there was a board or something behind the gaping hole to close it off – partner and I were wondering at the time if the homeowners were able to get their things or cars out – due the the crime scene tape cordoning off their property. Now that I’ve discovered what actually happened I hope the home owners are ok!

They were of ‘Islander’ appearance. Let’s not over-analyze that.

I agree Duke.

WMC, why don’t you go ask the witness(es) to describe them better for you. ‘Cos it’ll really make a difference now. Maybe you can profile them, do a face-fit and track them down to their ancient ancestors.

Seriously – how someone describes someone is simply that – their own description.

Oh jeez you need to get over it WMC. It’s called racial profiling, it’s based on stereotypes and as yet nobody has been able to suggest a better way of quickly identifying a person.

‘Asian’ or ‘Islander’ or ‘Anglo’ appearance may sound racist to some, but it’s not intented to be malicious, unlike your gollywog suggestion.

Well Woody, hang around certain parts of Civic late on Saturday night. They might introduce themselves

I have plenty of Polynesian friends already, thanks. If you mean Polynesian, it’s only one more syllable than ‘Islander’ and makes it clear what you’re talking about.

Out of curiosity, what would they have said if the person was Melanesian? “Of gollywog appearance?”

Thumper Thumper 8:22 am 02 Feb 09

Of could hazard a guess that they are not of Nordic stock.

‘Islander’ a general term for Pacific Islander

So helpful – not. There are Melanesian and Polynesian people living on the Pacific islands, and they look completely different. Which is it?

I can see it now.

Police officer: ‘Why did you leave the scene? Were you drunk?’

Offender: ‘Drunk? What an outrage! I was on my way to 7.30 Mass. I only just made it!’

It made the 7 news bulletin, they said they the police know who the driver is because the car wasn’t stolen.. they’re still looking for him though.

Guessing the driver was a bit off his face and speeding, the bolt must have been to escape the drink driving conviction too.

Haha those cheeky Islanders – can’t let em out of your sight for a second!

WTF is ‘Islander’ appearance? Torres Strait Islander? Pacific Islander? Tasmanian?

‘Islander’ a general term for Pacific Islander, in the same way that ‘European’ or ‘Asian’ is non specific. You can hardly expect them to specify Tahitian, Tongan or Tubuain.

A similar incident happened to my colleague a few years ago in Evatt. He said that he wouldn’t wish it on anyone. It was such a hassle getting it fixed up. Luckily no one was hurt…

Amazing that the driver ran away.

and the owners now have the option of a window in their new wall.

This is awful, emd, and so unnecessary! What a way to start the day ….
