Cheap Eats – 10″ Custom Pizzeria (Braddon)

By Alexandra Craig - 18 February 2016 17

10″ Custom Pizzeria is located within the hip and bustling food precinct that is The Hamlet on Lonsdale Street, Braddon.

Its pizzas are probably the best I have ever eaten. They make all their dough in-store and it is rolled out on the bench in front of you. They have a pizza menu, or you can make your own.

The classic menu has several options for under $15, the cheapest being the pepporoni pizza at $12 which my partner opted for when we visited last week. The pizza I opted for was the BBQ chicken which is just above a ‘cheap eat’ at $16 (plus extras) however I found this pizza really filling so it could easily serves two people. I also added mushrooms and spanish onion to my order.

If you order in-store you watch your pizza being made right before your eyes. For a business that is pumping out a bazillion pizzas every day, they still put a lot of attention to detail in each pizza and are very generous with their toppings.

Once the toppings are complete, into the woodfire oven the pizzas go and they’re ready for you to shove your face into 10 minutes later (update from 10″CP: bake time is 3 minutes). There is seating indoors and also outside at The Hamlet but we opted for the 8 minute walk home with our pizza and they were still piping hot when we arrived.

Best. Pizza. Ever.

Pizza Gusto’s potato pizza is one of my all time favourites, though under pressure now from the Yarralumla pizza place’s version. Pizza Gusto is due to open a second outlet in Kingston soon.

Yum, I don’t think I’ve ever had a potato pizza but it sounds delicious. I didn’t even know there was a pizza place at Yarralumla?! Though, to be fair I only ever go to the Yarralumla shops to get Turkish food.

Bentham Street Pizza in Yarralumla is ace. They do the best pear and blue cheese pizza – it will convert you to fruit and strong cheese as viable topping options.

I saw “feta & honey” on a pizza menu once, and was unable to resist…

Looking at the photos above, the one on the right looks like something you’d get from Dominos, whereas the one on the left looks like a nice crisp Italian pizza.
I think the idea is to cap it at 3 toppings. If you want any more, get another pizza. Alexandra’s pizza looks like it should have been 3 separate pizzas.

What was the feta and honey like? It almost sounds like a dessert pizza but I bet it had that amazing sweet/salty ratio.

Haha well the 3 separate pizzas thing is my fault, not 10″CM’s – I added a few things to mine because I like that flavour combination. They are super generous with toppings though, had they put a lesser quantity of each topping on I wouldn’t have minded.

? I have never encountered a pizzeria where they DON’T handroll the pizza dough?

Yeah #AlexandraCraig it’s called “Bentham Street Bar and Pizza”. It does come runner up to the Turkish joint for us, but makes for a good change once in awhile… Certainly worth a try and I think their Gourmet Vegetarian pizza is a winner!

A good potato pizza on a decent base is a real treat. The best one I’ve had came from Bright in Victoria.

I’ve only had the chance to share 1 pizza from here but it was great! I wish I could go back more often.

I haven’t eaten too much from the Hamlet but I did try the churros from Churros King a couple of weeks ago and they were pretty good and a shake from Aprils Van (is it still there?) which was all tasty… until I spilt it everywhere :'(

Ooooh here’s a churros tip for you – Tommy and Me in Macgregor do amazing churros on Saturday mornings outside the cafe – they are probably in my top 3 churros! Not sure where you live, so Macgregor may be a bit of a hike for you, but if you’re ever in the area it’s definitely worth checking out.

These guys keep me coming back. Great pizza at a fair price.

I still think there is better pizza on the street (Pizza Gusto) – but the time my wife and I went in to try these guys pizza we were impressed. Very friendly and a fun atmosphere.

Southside/Weston Creek needs a good pizza joint now.

They do look alright!

Generally agree most food up there is underwhelming. I blame the movie Chef for giving me unrealistic expectations of food vans!! Probably the best I’ve tried was the south american pork sandwich, right outside the pizza place there.

Although – had a kebab from the newish Mister Zees on Bunda Street yesterday. That was excellent!

Yeah, I don’t think something can be classed as “street food” just because it comes from a van… especially when it costs $20.

I went to Mister Zees last week! It wasn’t cheap (about $55 for two mixed plates) but it was soooooo good.

Just wish it was easy to grab a park for take away!
