Most people love a pub lunch. But in my experience, a lot of the time traditional pub lunches aren’t very good. And sometimes they’re not very cheap either.
The Durham in Kingston advertises a $10 lunch menu, most of which is comprised of burgers, and being a burger enthusiast I was keen to try it.
The Durham also has a $14.50 lunch menu which is a bit fancier and meals seem a bit bigger.
A lot of the time lunch specials are restricted to selected days of the week, or at the most – a Mon-Friday restriction. The Durham lunch special is on every day of the week.
I took myself and my partner along to lunch on Saturday (I know, I really splash out), and we were both starving – which can make or break a meal.
We both ordered burgers and I was impressed that a pub doing $10 burgers gives you the option to select cheese (blue, brie, swiss or cheddar), as most places don’t. I was boring and selected the PubChicken with brie, my partner ordered the PubBurger (beef).
There was a wide range of options, including a PubMexico, PubLamb, PubSalmon, and PubLentil. If you’re not keen for burgers they do have a few non-burger options also.
The meals came out relatively quickly. And I’ll tell you what, they were pretty damn good.
Fresh ingredients, the bun was perfect, everything packed a good flavour punch. Delicious. My partner even went so far to say it was one of the best burgers he’s had. He also opted for chips on the side ($2.50) and they were pretty good too.
The only downside was the garnish on the side of the burger – warm, limp lettuce and big chunks of red onion. I know it doesn’t change the deliciousness of the burger but it was unneccesary.
I can forgive a poorly executed side though. The burgers were great, I’ll be back!
