Civic lunch venue for group

I went to a good group lunch at the restaurant at The Waldorf Hotel, I think it is called London? We had a group of 30 and we all pre ordered some very good food and then we could all pay individually at the end at the cash register. We all ordered our own drinks from the bar as well. Very easy.

Is Asian (shared) food allowed? Each dept seems to have its own practice and procedure when it comes to Asian food – some places share, in others people order their own meal and dont share. If you get it wrong, you end up with a plate of salt and pepper squid and no rice for lunch. And if you dont share, kind of defeats the point of going to an Asian restaurant.

Anyway, Dehli 6 (indian, obviously) is large and quiet; Shanghai Dumpling restaurant is one of Canberra’s ‘hidden’ gems (cheap as well) and would be able to seat 20 or so (maybe over 2 tables). Both near the ANU.

Pre-ordering is preferred by most restaurants for large groups; and if you do pre-order and (for example) some people dont have the banquet, its usually pretty easily sorted out. Apart from the ‘non banquet’ people having to all sit together so they dont steal some of the banquet food . . .

Hmm, yes I see your point. And I certainly wouldn’t want to be the last to pay and therefore end up with the bill for everything my fellow diners “forgot” they ordered. I will suggest everyone gets cash on the way.

So scratching that criteria, recommendations please.
