Co-author sought

Spotted today on Seek: someone in Canberra looking for a co-author for their book.

The ad describes the work as “a remarkable novel” and they are looking for someone to work part time from home for about a year for a negotiable salary.

Their only requirement is that you have writing experience.

One wonders what conflicts might arise from someone obviously passionate about their work trying to bring in a partner on the project.

It ‘shoulds’ like you should volunteer, NickD.

Erm, yes. I hate how this site doesn’t let you edit your posts.

Who wants to bet this is a spam message from a “vanity publishing” firm?

I know someone that got caught out by someone like this who took their ideas and their writing disappeared into the ether and was never heard of again. So I wouldn’t trust this sort of adertisement at all.

“contractual part time role” – sounds like the co-author will be contracted out of any profit/IP right.

Also sounds like someone has a “great idea” for a novel, but either can’t be bothered actually writing, or has the worst case of writer’s block ever.

i wonder how they are going to deal with the IP issues of this if an experienced writer comes to the table.

It ‘shoulds’ like you should volunteer, NickD.

They should be prepared to pay $65-$85 an hour …

It shoulds like they’re looking for a ghost writer.
