Cyclist dies after Lake Tuggeranong bike path collision

A cyclist who died after his bike hit a fallen cyclist on the path surrounding Lake Tuggeranong has taken the ACT’s 2021 road toll to eight.

The bicycle collision in Tuggeranong on Tuesday, 17 August, happened at about 11:20 am.

Police were called after a 45-year-old man fell from his bicycle and a 70-year-old cyclist following him hit the fallen man on the bike path surrounding Lake Tuggeranong in Greenway.

Soon after, the 70-year-old collapsed and witnesses provided medical assistance.

He was taken to the Canberra Hospital by ambulance but died a short time later.

ACT Policing’s Major Collision Team is preparing a report for the Coroner.

Investigators would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident and have not already provided their information.
