Two people were allegedly inside a car that crashed on Adelaide Avenue earlier this year before fleeing the scene, leaving behind a critically injured boy who later died.

ACT Policing are now urging these two to come forward to help bring answers to the family of the 15-year-old who lost his life.

Emergency services were called to Adelaide Avenue in Yarralumla after a Toyota Camry left the road, hit a concrete barrier and was later found on its roof in the middle of the road at around 5 am on 17 April.

Police say the 15-year-old was ejected from the car and was found nearby with critical injuries. He was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

It was the third fatality on the ACT’s roads for 2024. The death toll has since risen to six.

Police conducted extensive investigations and, on Thursday (27 June), said three people were believed to have been in the Camry at the time of the crash.

“The other two occupants are believed to have climbed out of the badly damaged Camry and were collected by a second vehicle soon after. That vehicle then left the collision scene,” an ACT Policing spokesperson alleged.

Detective Sergeant Jonathon Turkich urged this pair to come forward.

“To a certain extent, it is understandable that people panic in traumatic situations like this. However, I cannot understand how you leave any human being, let alone someone you likely know, on the side of the road critically injured,” he said.

“This must be weighing very heavily on the conscience of these two people. I would implore them to be brave now and approach police so we can bring some answers to the family and friends of the young man who lost his life.

“It may provide you with the opportunity for some relief and support yourself rather than feeling like you’re looking over your shoulder for the rest of your life.”

Police are asking for anyone with information about the two other occupants or the second vehicle that arrived at the scene to come forward as well.

Unfortunately, the ACT is already well known across the country as a socialist bubble and a joke. This is as there has been no change in govt for far too long.

This is standard if they think they have a job for life, and hence believe they are not accountable to anyone anymore.

Also unfortunately, the Liberals are not a viable alternative. Let’s hope in the upcoming election that there is a significant vote for the independents (the only other choice), otherwise more of the same for yet another term will mean further creep and erosion of democratic values, they are accountable to the people, they are not untouchable rulers.
