Dirty tricks from Barr’s office

johnboy 5 March 2007 16

Richard Mulcahy is screaming blue murder about an email sent to MLA’s purportedly from the Australian Christian Lobby on the subject of gay civil unions.

The email originated from within the Legislative Assembly.

Andrew Barr has now fessed up that the email was actually sent by his own staff.

In a pleasant change from Stanhopian instransigence (*cough* Aidan Bruford *cough*) the miscreant has fallen on their sword.

“I do not believe it is behaviour that is acceptable for ministerial staff. The staff member, last week, offered their resignation which I immediately accepted

“I apologise to the Australian Christian Lobby, Members of the Legislative Assembly and the community.”

UPDATED: Despite in the ABC story declaring that: I think all people involved in politics should put their name to their positions” Andrew neglected to mention the name of his staffer.

In our comments mr. groden has named him as Matthew Lawrence who it seems has some significant form in dubious behavior. Your taxes keep people like him in clover.

tortfeaser, I guess he had his reasons for using the female pronoun…don’t ask.

Matt Lawrence was named on the ABC last night and on the front page of the Canberra Times today. By all accounts Lawrence is a career fraudster. I mean, how pathetically stupid could you really be?

When Barr was on 666 talking about this yesterday, he used the female pronoun. Might not be this Lawrence clown?

What next from the ACT Govt: someone being caught printing their own money?

The ALP is, by definition, the shallow end of the gene pool.

Thumper Thumper 8:31 am 06 Mar 07

It just reinforces the view that this government pays scant heed to the politcal process and even less so to the people they puport to represent.

Its hard to imagine how our aldermen can even remotely hope to get quality staff. After all, by the time all the Federal MP jobs are gone, then the staffers for the Feds, then the local aldermen, you’re really scraping the bottom of the ALP gene pool. Barr and co get the hacks who aren’t good enough to get a job in real politics, let alone a proper job out in the real world.

why is there parliament/hansard stuff talking about UC student elections?
don’t they have more important things to discuss

Hasdrubahl Hasdrubahl 8:23 pm 05 Mar 07

ABC News beat you to it by around 35 minutes. But thanks for the Hansard stuff anyway.

Just another insignificant troll on the Toytown Parlt staff.

Why is Andrew Barr so reluctant to reveal the name of his (ex) moronic staff member?

Matthew Lawrence has always been a hack. Read the senate hansard about him:

Senate ADJOURNMENT – University of Canberra: Student Elections – 26 September, 2002

“…that he (Matthew Lawrence) worked for the ALP in Queensland on a number of campaigns, including one for Jim Elder—the former Deputy Premier of Queensland who was required to resign for electoral roll rorting. I understand that Mr Lawrence was living with Daniel Jenkins during the ballot paper stealing incident at the Australian National University student association elections in 1996.”

“…It is well known at the University of Canberra that Mr Lawrence is an open and active member of the ALP and Young Labor, yet he was allowed to be the returning officer. Mr Lawrence had openly been seen within the Students Association office assisting Integrity candidates—and once again `Integrity’ should be in inverted commas—in producing election posters and providing advice on issues relating to various candidates, which matter was of a political nature.”

In this instance, Ari, ‘nailed’ would be the appropriate term.

I wonder if the staffer did, in fact, “offer” his resignation, or if he was boned.

I don’t know but someone at work came in all excited and said Barr had been fired. Everyone rejoiced until I looked on here 🙂 and saw that it was a staffer.

However, the person who broke the news at work is still adamant Barr has been ousted.

kimba kimba 1:54 pm 05 Mar 07

Does anyone know who the staffer was?

Seems there’s a job opening for you JB…

Oh, and I only believe in gay marriage when both chicks are hot.

Maybe they need guidelines on how to not employ morons…
