Won, Phantom of the Opera was done under the premise of “future shows” for Philo. I don’t think it is booked in or anything… just wishful thinking. :-/

Samuel you seem like a cool guy, I was just trying to be funny. I like your blog – you might consider reviewing some more restaurants/cafes as I think your reviews might offer a fresh take on these establishments.

Two of my mates, Cam & Ry, are playing in a comp @ Belco Markets Sat morn, 11am. I figure coz it’s a comp there will, of course, be other bands.

Dammit! That’s another thing I can’t eat. Stupid gluten intolerance!

Sorry Bonfire, I don’t know, I just saw the sign and thought I would pass on the info.

chocolate crackles ?

There’s a ‘HUGE PLANT SALE’ and North Ainslie Primary School 9am-1pm Saturday, books and cakes will also be sold.

I only made the somewhat useless disclosure so that I wouldn’t be accused of working for them again…looks like it entertained a few people.

oi, don’t worry about them Samuel, it’s nice to lay your cards on the table

I have never met SG-S, but don’t take the piss, okay?

Oh for those of you who don’t wish to see Musical Theatre but have a hankering for some good old fashioned comedy…

Supa Productions Inc is presenting a different kind of Phantom… Noel Coward’s “Blithe Spirit” at Theatre 3 tonight and tomorrow night (with a matinee tomorrow at 2:00 PM)

For more infor on Blithe Spirit go to Supa’s website.

….and for a review of the show click here.

“basically a reveiw of all Canberra Philharmonic Shows over the past 50 or more years?”

Philo must have done Phantom very quietly… I don’t recall seeing their version?? Perhaps it was snuck in between Les Mis v2 and Les Mis v3 hehehehe

I am basically only typing this to takle the piss out of Sir Maximus hehehehe

jamius maximus10:48 am 28 Oct 05

PS Just heard word that there are 130 tickets left so book yours now. 50 songs across many different shows – Evita, Phantom, Westside, Les Mis, Fiddler, Oliver, Sound of Music, Mikado, OKLAHOMA! and the list goes on.

I am being paid huge amounts of cash to make this post and am only saying nice things because of the cash.

The RMC Band and Canberra Philharmonic Society present “Many Happy Returns” at the Canberra Theatre. The concert has been staged celebrate the 40th Birthday of the Canberra Theatre. It is basically a reveiw of all Canberra Philharmonic Shows over the past 50 or more years performed by various cast members from Philo shows of the past. We had the dress rehearsal last night and it is sounding good. I think we have sold 1100 of the 1200 tickets available though so if this sounds like your bag, call Canberra Ticketing on 6275 2700 (or check out http://www.canberratheatre.org.au/pages/event/performance299.asp)

Blast, that means I missed it (reid preschool birthday). I really should take more notice of the dates of such things…looks like I’ll be sulking over the weekend now…

“The SnowyHydro Southcare helicopter base is having an open day 10-3 on Sunday”
Do you think there’ll be helicopter rides?

Agreed, I don’t see why they can’t include men in the march.
and not all sexual violence women experience is perpetrated by men.

10 bucks says that idiot firestick wavers will be at reclaim the night. i love the way men are excluded, as if sexual violence never occurs to men.

if you want to win peopel to a cause, inclusiveness is better than alienation.

maybe i should contact the organisers and offer to present an address on the subject.

Oh and Canberra Youth Music (formerly the Canberra Youth Orchestra Society but it hasn’t beent hat for a few years) is having an all-groups concert on Sunday.

Starts 2pm at Llewellyn Hall (School of Music) and entry is be gold coin donation I believe. Each group is playing for 10-15mins and if the past few years are anything to go from it should be fairly tightly run (unlike years ago when they used to drag on endlessly).

Ah, looks like I was the only one who saw any humour there…

Cos the reclaim the night thing’s all about being able to be out at night and be afraid of being attacked (at least that’s my understanding of its original intentions).

And Thumper said, “No idea when I’m afraid” which I thought was a clever play on words cos of it being about not being afraid and he doesn’t know when he’ll be afraid…and yeah.

I’m ranting aren’t I?

The “Rotary Scenic Cycle Tour of Canberra” is on Sunday. Pedalpower info is here.

“””
You have a choice of four signed routes on sealed bitumen roads and cycle paths. You can combine sections of the rides or make your own version:

1. Family Ride around the Lake: 25 km (easy) with no hills, start 9.30 a.m.

2. Circumnavigate Lake Burley Griffin: 30-48 km (easy+) start 9.00 a.m. You can stay on the flat or choose to climb up to four hills (Mt Pleasant – 80 m climb; Mt Ainslie – 220 m climb; Black Mt – 230 m climb; and/or Red Hill – 100 m climb).

3. Lake and Rural Tour: 50-74 km (medium+) starts 8.30 a.m. In addition to the four hills under Route 2, Routes 3 and 4 pass Mt Stromlo (160 m climb).

4. Canberra hills and views tour: 77-100 km (hard) start 8.00 a.m.

The Reid Preschools 60th Bday celebration was last weekend.

Hmm thanks SG-S I went there, might try and find some more deets.

Samuel Gordon-Stewart11:17 am 27 Oct 05

From memory Reid Preschool are celebrating a birthday this weekend (50th or 70 I think) but as I don’t recall any of the details, I really don’t know.

The ‘Reclaim the night’ is 28 Oct, Friday 6 pm.
“This year’s Reclaim the Night theme is addressing sexual violence within institutions, and a number of guest speakers will talk about specific institutions within our community.

There will be performances by local women’s band GILF, a hoola-hooping troupe, dancers and a number of other artists on the night.

Come and join the rally and march and make a statement that sexual violence towards women and children is not okay.

Men are invited to show their support by lining the streets in encouragement of Women and Children in the March.

For more information please contact the Canberra Rape Crisis Centre on 62478071.”

Me, well I’ll be indulging in some Hallowickedness if my friends get their act together and organise a party or I’ll be celebrating completing my degree at the Civic Pub, at the expense of my friends.

Absent Diane11:11 am 27 Oct 05

I dont know what it is

“Reclaim the night” rally in Garema place…No idea when I’m afraid.

Thumper did you intend that pun or do you not know what a reclaim the night rally is?

Made me laugh anyhow.

Absent Diane10:42 am 27 Oct 05

That is interesting… I may have to show up and see if you are playing guitar for ANE and if you are thats means you will be able to see if Im playing bass for them

That’s interesting because I may or may not be playing guitar for A Necessary Evil in the band comp. Hmmmm… I guess the only way to find out is to come along.

Absent Diane10:19 am 27 Oct 05

I may or may not be playing bass for a necessary evil tomorrow night at the band comp… come one come all..will I be wearing headgear that is the question.. this is assuming I don’t get bumped off by some vengeful cop/bouncer… 🙁

Saturday night…mmmmmmm dress up party and I heard a rumour of some monkeys playing instruments or something…..

whatever happened to conrad lens and his lensman ?

There’s Fire on the Hill’s ‘public’ album launch @ the Phoenix on Saturday.

When there’s such a high concentration of Canberra’s twits out at our city’s second best University, it’s bound to be a pleasant weekend in the city…

Well, if anyone is interested, there is an expedition to count frogs on Saturday Night…

Another collection of roadside signposted events:

Fete at Girls Grammar on Saturday (no times but my guess would be starts at 10)

St Matt’s School Page holding a fete 10-2 on Sunday

The SnowyHydro Southcare helicopter base is having an open day 10-3 on Sunday

Couple of hours away out at Ariah Park there is a B&S. They’re always fun.

well, there’s a battle of the bands happening tomorrow night at Potbelly featuring:

A Necessary Evil
From the South
Sinema
Sansutra
The Misogynists
OneWayFare
Five Secrets
The White Lie
Dirt Navigator

Starts at 7pm and is free.

Plus there is also Stonefest @ UC happening this weekend…
