Double demerits this weekend

By johnboy - 27 September 2012 8

ACT Policing have put a little note on their website:

Double demerits from Friday 28 September to Monday 1 October inclusive.

Not that you should do anything to incur demerit points anyway. But with a bit of luck they can get Mr Gillespie off the roads once and for all.

What’s Your opinion?

yeah because those inclined to speed usually don’t care if its double demerits. Its only those who never speed and well double demerits don’t affect them regardless, although some people feel driving that extra 5-10 kms under the limit is worth it to avoid double demerits.

Still waiting for them to demonstrate how the double demerits improves road safety over the holiday period in the ACT. I don’t remember there ever being any road deaths here that corresponded to a long weekend…..

Isn’t it great when people answer their own questions? Saves so much time for the rest of us.

I believe he was saying that there were never road deaths that correspond to a long weekend back befor ethey had double demerit points.

simple, keeps all the p platers and people with few points left off the road,

… and if people in either of these categories do chose to drive, they are more likely to drive cautiously and be more aware of speed / not talking on the phone / indicating: i.e.. not driving like they normally would.

Still waiting for them to demonstrate how the double demerits improves road safety over the holiday period in the ACT. I don’t remember there ever being any road deaths here that corresponded to a long weekend, if anything there would be a lower risk of accidents and deaths during this period in the ACT because everybody leaves Canberra!

If they thought the double demerits improved road safety, why not leave then in place permanently?
