TAMS are letting us know we can offload some electronic waste for free this weekend:

Canberrans with old or unwanted televisions and computers are invited to come along to a free e-waste collection event on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 May 2013, Chris Ware, Director, ACT NOWaste, said today.

“To help make it easier for Canberrans and people from surrounding regions to dispose of their televisions, computers and computer products such as printers, keyboards, mice and hard drives, TechCollect, a nationwide not-for-profit recycling service, will provide two temporary drop off sites over the weekend,” Mr Ware said.

“Between 9 am and 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday, northsiders can drop off their e-waste at the Majura Oval car park on Angas Street in Ainslie and southsiders can visit the collection site at the Makin Place car park on Makin Place in Deakin.

“E-waste from the event will be transported by TechCollect to one of its partner recyclers for dismantling. The products will then be separated into the various streams of materials, including glass, metal and plastic. Once sorted, each stream is sent through a process to recover parts that can later be used to create new items and products.

I thought E-waste was free now

It is – and you can still drop it all off at both RMCs. These are just added drop off centres.
