School holidays are here and there are heaps of activities for kids on our events calendar this week.

There’s a Teddy Bear’s Picnic and Kids High Tea at First Edition, you could make your own toy pig with the National Museum of Australia or explore the National Dinosaur Museum by torchlight – check out all the events on the RISE Canberra website.

Over the weekend, visit ‘Ngalim-Ngalimbooroo Ngagenybe – the Shirley Purdie Exhibition’ at the National Portrait Gallery, head to the Handmade virtual market for beautiful handmade gifts and celebrate Bastille Day with dinner at the Alliance Française building reopening.

Let your inner dragon roar and take up Chinese dragon dance lessons with the Yut Hung Kung Fu Academy at the University of Canberra Refectory. During the week, check out the Halve Your Household waste seminar online, have a Sparkling Experience at Lark Hill Winery while learning all about how they make their sparkling wines or try the curated cocktails and desserts at Amici Bar.

Ngalim-Ngalimbooroo Ngagenybe – the Shirley Purdie Exhibition

The National Portrait Gallery presents Ngalim-Ngalimbooroo Ngagenybe (From my women) by Shirley Purdie, a series of panels containing stories about Aboriginal history and identity and ways of seeing and understanding the world. The exhibition is running until 1 November.

Yut Hung Kung Fu Academy in Canberra holds classes every Monday and Thursday during school terms and Sundays all throughout the year teaching you traditional Chinese martial arts including lion and dragon dancing.
