Join artists from the Tjanpi Desert Weavers for a day of weaving workshops and activities. Be inspired by the desert landscape and listen to live music as you weave your own basket or crafty creature to take home. An event for the whole family.

The Tjanpi Desert Weavers is a social enterprise of the Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Women’s Council, where women from remote Central and Western deserts use native grasses to make spectacular contemporary fibre art, from baskets, jewellery, sculpture and more. Originally developing from the traditional practice of making manguri rings, working with fibre in this way has become a fundamental part of Central and Western desert culture, and the Tjanpi artworks are now regularly featured in national galleries.

10:30 am to 12:30 pm Joining the festivities will be internationally acclaimed, Japanese born and trained, ice sculptor Kenji Ogawa. Watch live ice sculpting as Kenji works his magic to carve out intricate designs. Kenji is known for using traditional hand tools and techniques to make ephemeral one-of-a-kind sculptures.

10 am to 12 pm Musical duo Mr Tim and Ms Nat will also be bringing their special brand of family fun to the event, performing some of their favourite tunes for everyone to enjoy. Dance and sing along or just sketch while listening to their upbeat performance.
