As part of TAC’s Saturday Salon series, local classical guitarist Callum Henshaw will perform a program featuring some of the finest music from Europe and Latin America. The concert will include lively and uplifting works by Paraguayan composer Augustín Barrios, alongside classics by Spanish composers Isaac Albéniz and Joaquín Rodrigo. Rounding out the afternoon’s music is a recently rediscovered sonata by Austrian Ferdinand Rebay.
Callum Henshaw is one of Australia’s leading guitarists, having performed around the world as a concert artist in music festivals, including the Tirana International Guitar Festival, the Saigon International Guitar Festival, the Melbourne International Guitar Festival, and the Canberra International Music Festival. He has won three international competitions: Córdoba (Spain), Tirana (Albania) and Melbourne. He holds a PhD in music from the ANU.
As a soloist, he has two critically acclaimed albums, ‘Echo & Return’, and ‘Forest of Dreams’. Cal is also the newest member of the long-standing quartet Guitar Trek, and in 2023 they released ‘On Song’, a collection of pop songs that have been reimagined by an international cast of composers. In 2024, Matt Withers and Cal released the album ‘Here & Now’ which features brand new music commissioned by the duo. Cal is proudly supported by Knobloch Strings and performs on a Smallman & Sons guitar.
