Join astrophysicist and author Karlie Noon in conversation with Celeste Carnegie as they discuss the astronomic heritage of Noon’s Kamilaroi Peoples and her journey as an ambassador for youth and astronomy.

Entry is free to this event but bookings are essential.

The talk will be available to view live online via the National Library’s Facebook and YouTube pages. You do not need to book a ticket to watch the event online.

Deadly Dialogues celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and their journeys and acknowledges the diverse cultures of First Nations people through in-conversation style events.

About Karlie Noon

Karlie Alinta Noon is an accomplished scholar from the Kamilaroi Nation in east Australia with degrees in mathematics, physics, an advanced masters of astronomy and is currently undertaking a PhD in astronomy at the Australian National University. Karlie uses her extensive experience in science communication and media to advocate for the importance of Indigenous stewardship in astronomy and space practices. She has extensive experience across various media platforms and is the recipient of numerous awards for leadership and research impact. Karlie is co-author of the acclaimed book First Knowledges Astronomy: Sky Country.

About Celeste Carnegie

Celeste Carnegie is a tech communicator and advocate who drives digital inclusion within First Nations communities. With 10+ years of engaging communities, she’s a passionate advocate, fostering relationships and developing impactful programs. Celeste directs her expertise to provide STEM education and digital upskilling for First Nations people, empowering communities for the digital age. She envisions a future where First Nations people confidently navigate the tech landscape and actively contribute, reshaping the industry’s narrative. Celeste is an innovator who inspires change and challenges norms to pursue a more inclusive and diverse tech future.
