South Jerrabomberra’s hive of activity this autumn will see residents keen to jump on the core lifestyle facilities opening soon across the suburb.
South Jerra boasts plenty of drawcards including affordable, freehold title house/land packages, stunning natural surrounds, and is close to Queanbeyan and Canberra CBDs. But the main attraction, according to developers, is the huge selection of local amenities.
“So much love has gone into designing this community,” The Village Building Co. general manager Jamie Cregan says.
“We’ve dedicated more than 23 hectares to facilities and features that bring people together and make life easier.
“We’re beyond excited for people to try them out and for each location to become a hive of local activity.”
Three huge additions to the suburb include a new town park, lifestyle/dog park, and community centre. All are due to open over the next few weeks.
Featuring a fully equipped playground, splash pad, basketball half-court, nature play space, animal sculpture trail, learn-to-ride facility and recreational village green, the South Jerra Town Park promises a huge variety of experiences for the whole family.
The park will be fully landscaped with more than 180 advanced trees, 11,000 plants and 14,000 square metres of grass. An outdoor gym, barbecue facilities and public bathrooms will also be available.
“The idea here is to create a space where families, young people and older residents can gather together across all seasons,” Jamie says.
“Our park is located right near the community centre, which will be a hub for social connection and activities. It features a large events space, intimate function rooms and a gallery attraction.”
Autumn also welcomes the opening of “Australia’s most innovative lifestyle/dog park”, stretching over 20,000 square metres with two doggie play areas, new agility equipment, lush lawns and a fully irrigated community garden and orchard.
“This park is also kitted out with barbecue facilities, picnic shelters, public bathrooms and one of my favourite features in the whole suburb, our three-way bubblers!” Jamie says.
“A top stream for humans fills the bottom bowl for our four-legged friends, with the third aiming directly down to fill water bottles with ease. It’s a fun little feature.”
The community gardens and orchard will likely be maintained by local social groups and schools, taking pressure off council and encouraging a deep-set sense of belonging among residents.

Several local features are still under development, including the South Jerra Town Centre and Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Sports Complex.
Mountain bike trails, landscaped ponds and a skate park are also in the suburb’s future, alongside more than 85 hectares of nature reserve peppered with viewing platforms and walking trails.
“We recently had the DA [development application] for our town centre approved, which is super exciting,” Jamie says.
“The centre will introduce outdoor dining, cafes and a pub. We’ve also dedicated thousands of square metres to mixed-use retail and commercial opportunities, which could include childcare, health, wellness and other small businesses.”
Already equipped with state-of-the-art hockey and soccer fields, the regional sports complex will host a 3000-seat indoor stadium and an aquatics centre in the future.
More than 700 lots have been developed across South Jerra with an estimated 800 more to go.
Residents can enjoy 24/7 access to an in-depth customer portal, keeping them informed on house/land progress as their lot develops.
The Village Building Co. recently introduced a calendar events and news section to the portal, seamlessly connecting social groups such as gardening, walking, dog and parents’ clubs.
“I invite everyone to come for a drive and see everything for yourself,” Jamie says.
“You can also check out our display homes at 2 Alpine Ash Way and 16 Alpine Ash Way for extra inspiration.
“Above all else, I want to say thank you to our development team and wonderful residents… we are part of something truly special here. I can’t wait to see the thriving hub of activity South Jerra will become.”
