Completed in 2023, Memory Film represents three decades of activism and film production by Australian filmmaker Jeni Thornley based on a substantial Super 8 archive (1974–2003), including content captured while producing Maidens, To the Other Shore, Island Home Country and the collaborative feature For Love or Money.

Poetic and immersive, Memory Film explores the dynamic politics of women’s liberation and historical periods of intense social change. This unique film also documents an inner journey of liberation, traversing gender fluidity, love and its tribulations, the pleasure and pain of motherhood, violence against women, and the desire for a world free of war and colonisation.

Followed by a post-screening Q&A with director Jeni Thornley.

An $8 Collection Selection screening: explore hidden gems and Australian classics from the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia collection.
