Saturday Afternoon Tunes is back with a special cosy winter edition featuring two of Canberra’s finest First Nations performers as part of NAIDOC in the North 2022. Cornerstone Pub is this month’s venue, with delicious beverages and tasty snacks available at the bar.
Dale Robert Huddleston is a renowned singer, songwriter and artist. Dale writes a blend of songs about Aboriginal culture and a connection to land, people and family. He is a gifted musician, and plays the guitar and the didgeridoo. He has released five albums. His most recent album, ‘Simple Things’, is a stand-out collection of lyrics and music composed by Dale. The title track, a heartwarming song about his daughter, is a classic country music ballad.
As a musician, he has been performing since 1989 and recording since 1999. He’s toured the country as a soloist and with his many bands and has played over 1500 shows supporting the likes of Jimmy Little, Yothu Yindi, Troy Cassar-Daley, Archie Roach, Shane Howard and Mental as Anything. He was nominated for band of the year at the 2011 Deadly Awards.
Alinta Barlow is an emerging Ngunnawal performer, who played at some of the very first NAIDOC in the North celebrations all those years ago. In 2022, she’s back, after an incredible performance at the National Folk Festival this year. Alinta will have you captivated with her soulful voice, clever lyrics and heartfelt performance style.
Bookings aren’t required – but get there early to secure yourself the perfect vantage point and get settled for the afternoon.
