Over the first weekend in March, 35 urban artists will transform the built environment of Canberra.

The festival celebrates the raw energy and rich diversity of this scene.

Artists encompassing street art, graffiti, portraits, stencils, Indigenous rat, geometric and abstract art will work across 30 walls and structures.

Woden Youth Centre have gotten involved with their Youth Street Art Festival. Alongside the artistic history of the Woden drains, Woden Youth Centre has a long history of engaging young people with artistic experiences.

Team Leader for youth services at Woden Community Service Joel Artup said they partnered up between the youth services and community development engagement team to look at how they could bring something to the community that was both street art focused and youth and family focused for Woden.

“We will be co-locating with the Woden Drains tour which will be happening at the same time, as well as doing a walk to the youth centre so people can understand what we wanted to achieve with the mural,” Mr Artup said.

They will be putting on a bbq, having a colouring in competition, a local artist Paw is going to be there displaying some of his works and there will be prizes and little giveaways throughout the day.

“It’s a fun free social event for families and young people to enjoy and promote service and help them grow their artistic skills and abilities,” he said.
