Only three words can possibly escape your lips when viewing the extraordinary, delicate and divine gowns made by Vicky Kidd-Gallichan – Rockstars and Royalty. Any unique fabric creation Vicky breathes life into transports the wearer to a magical place where they feel incredible and special. Vicky is unassuming, peaceful, generous and kind. Changing the world around her into a luxurious panorama of colour and joy one gown, tie, headpiece and design at a time.
Unsurprisingly, Vicki has just launched a Revolution, ya know, in her “spare” time. A “revolution of tolerance, kindness and confidence”. Vicky is inviting everyone in Canberra to stand beside her and stand up for themselves proudly saying “This is me and I am proud of it”. If anyone can help smash, change and fight current beauty standards, it’s Vicky Kidd-Gallichan.
Name: Vicky Kidd-Gallichan.
Age: 40.
Occupation? Founder and owner of Rockstars and Royalty and The Just Be Revolution.
How long have you lived in Canberra? 10 years.
North, South or Q-town? Southside.
Most memorable event attended in the ACT? Canberra puts on some great events. It’s hard to choose just one! My favourite annual events are Enlighten and seeing the hot air balloons drifting across the sky at the balloon festival each year.
Things you love about Da Berra? That it has everything you need from a city without feeling like you live in a city. The sunsets over the mountains. The air. The openness. Having a big garden and a driveway after years of living in terraced houses in the UK. The supportiveness of the creative community.
What you loath about the city? That it’s not on the coast.
Most cherished memory in the capital? A few years ago my husband bought me a flying lesson. Flying a tiny plane over Canberra was an experience I’ll never forget.
Which Canberra local do you most admire and why? I love Rachel and Julie from Handmade Canberra. Between the Handmade Markets and Shop Handmade, they’ve done so much for the Canberra creative community. I’m lucky enough to have been part of the Handmade Market since the first one back in 2008 at the Albert Hall. The support that Rachel and Julie have given me and other small local businesses is incredible.
Most precious item you own? I’m not sentimental when it comes to objects and possessions. Spending time with my family and making memories is far more precious to me.
First Canberra kiss and where? I have no idea! I moved here with my husband, so there wasn’t a special first kiss moment in Canberra.
Most delicious Berra place you adore eating at? There’s so many to choose from! I went vegan last year, so it’s been fun discovering all the best places that do great vegan food. Sadly, my favourite Southside place, Lazy May’s, shut down recently. I’m still looking for somewhere this end of town to go instead if anyone has any recommendations. In the city I love Akiba and I love Au Lac in Dickson.
What do you want to be when you grow up? I’ll never grow up!

What is a question you would like to ask everyone in Canberra? Are you ready to be part of the Revolution? The Just Be Revolution is a revolution of courage, strength and love. We are fighting to change what is seen as beautiful, normal and acceptable. We believe that everybody is beautiful and should be free to be who they are or who they want to be, without fear of judgement or ridicule. We’re holding our launch at QT in the city on April 27th so please join us!
We had to include a couple of extra images as they are so good… Photo’s by Lori Cicchini.
