FASHFEST finished up with a bang last night, with two fantastic shows closing the local fashion event.
The first show of the night was entitled SPECTRA. If I could use one word to describe the show, it would be ‘volume’. Billowing dresses and separates were a staple, with a mostly monochrome palette favoured by designers.
Purepod is all about ethical and sustainable fashion, so it was only right that their collection was complemented with stunning Ecobling and Field & Coppice accessories.
Cadia Balante showed a delightful array of fun and kooky rain jackets, from bright and sporty, to utilitarian camo print to the fantastically whimsical “hippo backpack over rain poncho” look.
SZN’s collection comprised of artfully made one-piece jumpsuits and kimono style outerwear, and somehow made super comfortable clothing look cool as well.
The last show of the night, SINGULARITY, drew the biggest crowd of the three-day event. Coupled with the energetic live music, this created a real buzz around the catwalk.
Vitamin by Sonalika opened the final show with Bollywood inspired saris and dresses in rich colours complemented by jewelled embellishments.
Braddon Tailors always make a high-quality suit, and with the models walking in time to Will Smith’s ‘Men in Black’, this just made my night.
Stephanie’s Boutique presented some bright colours and prints among the more classic lingerie looks.
OnTheGo Sports showcased their activewear, including bright-coloured lycra, sports uniforms and casual cool trackies, trainers and caps. This was one of the most entertaining shows to watch, with the models jogging the catwalk and pulling exaggerated poses that had the crowd in (supportive) stitches.
SZN x VFP gave us even more structural haute couture looks!
As the show’s finale, Nomi Kids presented a special “heart-warming surprise” for the audience. The pint-sized models had us all cheering for them, some of them adorably shy and others full of sassy poses and energetic dance moves. It was a fantastic way to end the night, followed by the final curtain call for models, designers, hair and makeup teams, crew and volunteers. This is always a nice warm and fuzzy moment at the end of each year’s show, reminding you that FASHFEST wouldn’t be possible without the collaborative efforts and countless long hours and late nights contributed by the huge team. And if that wasn’t enough, the audience even got to be a part of a special moment, FASHFEST Producer Nick Ellis’ surprise proposal (congratulations)!!
Did you get to FASHFEST during the three day event? Which was your favourite designer?
