UPDATED 6:15 pm: ACT Policing has reported that the fire on Mount Ainslie was deemed ‘under control’ at around 5:30 pm.

5 pm: ACT firefighters were working to contain a bushfire that broke out at around 3 pm today (5 February) on the western side of Mount Ainslie.

Units from the Rural Fire Service and ACT Fire and Rescue, along with two firefighting helicopters, were working to contain the blaze, believed to be less than one hectare in size. One witness reported seeing at least three water drops by the aircraft.

At 4:30 pm, there were no reports of any properties under threat.

However, people in the area may be affected by smoke which could reduce visibility and air quality.

Police have blocked off Mount Ainslie lookout from Mount Ainslie Drive.
