Looking for something fun to take your toddler or pre-schooler to that will engage their imagination and stimulate their brain? There’s a free Story Time at Brindabella Baby on the first Friday of every month, at 10am.
For August, we’re doing “That’s Not Junk!” by New Zealand author and illustrator Nikki Slade Robinson. This colourful story is all about a family who discover treasure in the world around them. Kids will go home with a colouring-in page, and there’s a handout for parents with easy and fun activities to do together. Brindabella Baby is upstairs at 29 Lonsdale St, Braddon – above Thrifty Car Hire, opposite Debacle.
By the way, if there are any Canberra-based authors of childrens, parenting, cooking, or health books, I’d love to hear about them. I’m always on the hunt for more local authors to support.
hehe, no.
It’s a childrens book 😉
I picked up that book at the last Lifeline Book Fair, lots of fun for kids.
Have emailed Thumper about his book… any others you know of?
I’ve got books by Tania McCartney, David Vernon, and Rhodanthe Lipsett, but would love more.
You really can’t go past The Monster that Ate Canberra for a great local story. Michael Salmon no longer lives in Canberra, but it is just a wonderful story on so many levels.
Kids love the idea of the innocent but naughty bunyip eating all the famous local landmarks. It really captures their imagination, and even the public service content is local and relevant.
Alexander Bunyip captured my heart as a child, and I will always have a soft spot for that dear little pink bunyip.

OMG! Ghost Stories for Kids Thumper?
emd,
email me on jgmontgomery at gmail.com
I’ve got a draft of a kids book that may be what you are looking for.
I promise not to stomp on any kids 🙂 Or sing any Python songs (The Meaning of Life was my 3am baby-feeding stay-awake trick).
I have my own toddler to entertain on Friday mornings, and one of the staff in my shop sometimes brings her little boy to work. So I figured why not invite lots of kids to come in and have some fun? More chance of them having their afternoon nap if they’ve had an outing in the morning.
Sounds great emd. If we didn’t have playschool on Fridays we’d come for sure. Good luck with it, hope you get a good turn out.
Reminds me of the Storytime sketch in Monty Python which had an animated graphic showing rabbits hopping in a field of daisies then a hippo stomping on them.
Could you make it 12pm? That way we can leave the sprogs with you while we head over to Debacle for a pint.
