Gillawa Gets To Hobart – Eventually.

By johnboy - 3 January 2006 2

ABC Online brings the happy news that Canberra Yacht Gillawa has finally brought the Sydney-Hobart Yacht Race to a conclusion as the last boat across the line, some five days after the winners came home.

I imagine all aboard will be glad to see dry land.

What’s Your opinion?

There was a segment about them on the news last night, and apparently they came in about 20 hours faster than last year. The crew is mostly made up of rookies; the idea behind the venture is to give these young sailors an opportunity to gain experience in ocean racing.

Good show, and well done I say.

Good on them. They don’t have the big bucks and they compete for a more noble reason than the winners. They compete full in the knowledge they cannot hope to win, but do so simply to compete.

That is a great attitude.

True sportsmen like these should be applauded.
