Goulburn Correctional Centre is in temporary lockdown tonight (4 August) after a staff member was deemed to be a close contact of a COVID-19 case.

The officer had attended the centre briefly on Wednesday while transporting inmates to the centre.

The staff member was directed to go for immediate COVID-19 testing and isolate in accordance with NSW Health advice.

The inmates were placed into isolation and the Corrective Services NSW COVID command post worked with the jail to ensure all appropriate precautions were taken.

About 8:00 pm a Corrective Services spokesperson said the staff member’s COVID-19 test had come back negative.

She indicated the facility was likely to go back to normal operations on Thursday.
