On 9 December 2010 the ACT Government will introduce even tougher anti-smoking legislation. While the ACT and other governments get tough on tobacco it appears they are ignoring an even bigger smoking health risk.
See the Age’s take on wood fired heating.
Like many people in Canberra, I live with a lung condition. I am advised by my doctor not to go outside in winter because of all the wood smoke pollution in my neighbourhood. She warns that I could end up back in hospital. Therefore I am imprisoned in my home for most of winter. The sooner people and especially politicians realise that neighbourhood wood smoke is just as serious as tobacco smoke the sooner people like me we will be able to walk out our front doors and breath fresh air, just like non-smokers who want to dine outdoors in a tobacco free environment. Is that too much to ask?

Already been done.

This is exactly why dope should be legalised 🙂
I think the biggest risk is that smokers will, en masse, get the craps and burn tonnes and tonnes of tobacco on their home fireplaces, thus addicting us all and turning Canberra into Cancerra.
The ACT Gov subsidises the replacement of wood fire heaters. Has done for years.
