The ANU is informing the world that former ACCC supremo Graeme Samuel is coming aboard:

Mr Samuel will take his place on the Council as one of the seven members appointed by the Minister on the recommendation of the Nominations Committee of Council. He replaces Justice Annabelle Bennett AO, who stepped down as a council member after 15 years. His first Council meeting will be on 23 September.

Mr Samuel joins Council following a distinguished and significant career in both the corporate and government sectors. Among his many achievements are roles as Associate Member of the Australian Communications and Media Authority, President of the National Competition Council, Chairman of the Melbourne and Olympics Parks Trust, Commissioner of the Australian Football League and Chairman of Opera Australia.

Mr Samuel took on the role of Chairman of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) in 2003. He formally handed over the reins at the ACCC on Friday.

“….I hope you’ll forgive for getting one Essendon arsehole mixed up with another.”

Wrong again Holden Caulfield. Samuel is a Melbourne Demons supporter.

Holden Caulfield, your comment is quite defamatory. Samuel has never owned a catering company. You maybe getting him mixed up with the late Ron Evans who was the AFL Chairman and the owner of the Spotless Catering Group.

Yes, you’re quite right. I retract my original copmment.

Samuel just stood by and watched his mate award the catering rights to himself. I hope you’ll forgive for getting one Essendon arsehole mixed up with another.

Excellent. Maybe he can bring some of the competition enforcement expertise to knock the heads of the Woroni editors together, who in the recent election created rules ensuring only their mates and current sub editors were eligible to be candidates for the additional editor positions they created.

Such a laugh that he headed the ACCC. I guess he learned what not to do when he managed to award his own company the catering rights at Docklands Stadium in Melbourne.
