I am not your lover, I'm just the map you used to find her

David McGill, Karen Tindall, Lisa Padzensky, and Stephen Goggs are getting ready to step out and about the ACT tomorrow to celebrate the Centenary of Canberra.

The foursome plan do a lap of the ACT on foot, crazy terrain and all.

“To celebrate the Canberra Centenary, from tomorrow, a group of four walkers will begin a journey of 306 kilometres around the ACT border which is expected to last 19 days,” ACTSES Chief Officer Tony Graham said.

“Over two years in the planning has gone into preparing the group for the walk with a significant training regime,” he said.

“The walk is expected to take the party through some challenging terrain and will begin tomorrow morning at the northern edge of the Woodstock Nature Reserve, Coree, at the point where the Murrumbidgee River crosses the ACT border.

“Three ACTSES volunteers and one employee from the ACT Health Directorate will then continue the border walk in an anti-clockwise direction.

“Opportunities will allow for others to join the walkers at various legs of the border walk. Park rangers from the Namadgi National Park together with staff from the ACT Emergency Service Agency have all planned on joining the group in stages.

“Supporting arrangements have also been planned for the border walk managed by the ACTSES. A logistics team will prepare meals and provide water, and also ensure a safety watch as the walkers venture along the ACT border.

“The walkers are planning on completing their trek at their starting point at the Murrumbidgee River on Sunday 20 October, 2013 however this date could change depending on conditions they face and their progress each day.

“We are fortunate to live in a territory where such a walk can be conducted in a single undertaking and I would like to wish the party and their support crew well and to return safety.”

If you want a view of the kind of wacky terrain waiting for them out there on the ACT borders you could check out this cheesy video of someone hang-gliding around them.

Be warned, you’re going to hear phrases like “discovering my limits” and “flying is a spiritual experience” while watching this. If you have a low tolerance to that sort of fluff you may want to turn your sound down.

so basically they are doing a bunch of day walks?
they aren’t carrying their overnight gear or their dinner and one would presume not their breakfast. either.
Why did it need 2 years of preparation?

Well you were correct in saying turn down the sound.

However am looking forward to seeing piccys of what original survey markers they find.
