It’s not every day you find a home where you can step out the back door, walk down to a private jetty and start boating around a secluded lake – especially in the Canberra region.

Nestled at the end of a cul-de-sac between parkland and open water, the home, at the aptly named 17 Lakeview Gardens in Jerrabomberra, is exactly that. The house is available for the first time since being named project home of the year by the Housing Industry Association in 1996, the same year it was built on the more than 1000 sqm block overlooking Lake Jerrabomberra.

“The fact that it’s backing onto the lake with its own jetty is something that’s incredibly rare in the region,” LJ Hooker Dickson licensed agent and auctioneer Nic Salter-Harding says.

“To my knowledge, it’s really only this precinct that has those features, and that’s just something you’re not used to seeing somewhere like Canberra.”

The new owners will also be able to keep their watercraft of choice moored at their private jetty – as long as it doesn’t use a petrol motor (so think canoes, kayaks, paddleboats, or even a boat with an electric motor to take in the birdlife and picturesque leafy views up-close).

Nic says you won’t have your peace disturbed either, with only one direct neighbour and little to no traffic coming through to the end of the cul de sac.

“It’s really private, really quiet and it’s close to Canberra, about 15 minutes away, maybe 20 with traffic, and you’ve got the local shopping centre nearby,” Nic adds.

Built and designed by Classic Constructions, Nic says the interior of the “superbly constructed” four-bedroom home has been well-maintained and has stood the test of time.

The home also features modern creature comforts, including new air conditioning, keyless entry smart lock front door, inter-house intercom and high-speed broadband.

The four-bedroom, two-bathroom lakeside home in Jerrabomberra is an “incredibly rare” find.

“As soon as you walk into the house, one thing you’ll notice is that it’s very open and very spacious, both in terms of the horizontal and the vertical space,” Nic says.

“That first living room you enter showcases that best, where you’ve got soaring vaulted ceilings with windows right up from the floor to the ceiling.”

Adjacent to the first living room is the house’s main living and dining wing, which leads into a kitchen and rumpus, all with views to the water.

Nic says the home’s multiple living areas are perfectly suited to families who all live together under one roof but still want their own private breakout areas.

The master suite is no exception, with an elevated private mezzanine leading to the main bedroom and ensuite with a spa bath overlooking the lake.

The remaining three bedrooms on the ground floor all have built-in robes and are conveniently positioned near the main bathroom, laundry and double garage.

“It’s the kind of home that you can appreciate in the photos to an extent, but you’ve really got to see it for yourself to fully understand what is being offered,” Nic says.

“It’s not something that you’ve likely seen before in the local market and it’s probably not something that you’ll see again for some time.”

The home at 17 Lakeview Gardens in Jerrabomberra is open for inspection on Saturday, 27 May, between 12 pm and 12:30 pm. It goes to auction on Saturday, 17 June, at 1:30 pm.
