Think: a heritage-listed gum tree, a cow or two and a kangaroo on acres of surrounding farmland and an architect-designed homestead.

The four-bedroom home at 49 Olive Pink Crescent in Banks has all the advantages of city living in a unique setting replete with peace and wildlife.

LJ Hooker Tuggeranong principal Andrew Curren says while some homes can be unassuming, this one has a “real wow factor” from the minute you arrive.

“It really is quite a spectacular first impression,” he says. “You feel like you’re in a really peaceful, rural setting but you can still drive to the city in about 25 minutes.”

The home sits on the verge of farmland with uninterrupted views towards the Brindabellas, while the nearby historic Lanyon Homestead ensures the home won’t lose its unique edge.

“Depending on the time of the year, cows do come very, very close to the house,” Andrew explains. “There’s certainly kangaroos down there too and lots of native birdlife as well.”

The home’s yard invites the birdlife to come even closer, with low-maintenance (thanks to a built-in irrigation system) landscaped gardens and fruit trees framing the property.

Scenic walking and biking trails, including Mount Rob Roy, are also on your doorstep. As are quality local schools, Tuggeranong Town Centre and Lanyon Marketplace.

“The privacy and the quietness of the location is one thing, but then the two-storey, large 250-square-metre property is very special as well,” Andrew explains.

The home’s architectural flair, courtesy of designer Oztal Architects, is apparent from the moment guests enter beneath an eye-catching circular window.

Six-metre-high ceilings extend from the entryway through to the formal lounge and dining area with large windows framing views out towards the Brindabellas.

“That feeling of grandeur is very unique,” Andrew says. “Normally you might have windows looking at the neighbours, but instead you’re looking straight down into the valley.”

The formal lounge is the first of four living spaces, perfectly suiting the home to families who want the flexibility to entertain guests, while also keeping their kids entertained.

For entertaining family and friends, the place to be is the north-facing open-plan family and meals area with its top-of-the-line kitchen and access to two outdoor entertaining decks.

A few steps away and you’re in the kids’ realm, complete with their very own rumpus room, three double bedrooms with built-in robes and a family bathroom with a spa bath and rain shower.

But the best is reserved for the parents, with the entire upper floor of the home forming an expansive master wing featuring a king-sized bedroom with a built-in robe, luxury ensuite and a large, private living area.

“I’d call it a parents’ retreat, where the parents can get away and have their own time,” Andrew says. “Or it could be used as another living area or an oversized home office.”

What’s more, the home includes ducted gas heating, air conditioning and evaporative cooling and a double remote access garage with an insulated wine cellar and room for storage.

“I’m encouraging people to get out of the mindset that everyone has to live in the central parts of Canberra,” Andrew explains. “There are some really good offerings in this area.”

49 Olive Pink Crescent in Banks is open for inspection at 2 pm to 2:30 pm on Saturday 12 August. For more information, call LJ Hooker Tuggeranong principal Andrew Curren on 0424 288 717, and check out the latest listings on Zango.
