It’s showtime again!
To me the Canberra Show means alpacas, cows’ rear ends, showbags, pretty cakes, sideshows, strange fruit pictures and endless rows of people selling useful junk. To you it may mean something different.
It certainly means something different to Chief Minister Jon Stanhope, who is touting the show as a place for Canberrans to find out about their government and its services.
“Eight separate agencies will be included in the ACT Government display, giving visitors a good glimpse at the many services we provide,†Mr Stanhope said.
“Information will be on hand about everything from upcoming Government events to water-saving tips, health and educational services and how to avoid scams†[probably useful at the show].
He also said the Celebrate Canberra festival would be promoted, with birthday cake for anyone who visited the stand and an opportunity to win a balloon ride for two.
So take note folks, the show is not all about fun, frivolity and animals. It’s actually a serious place to learn about your government.
