The National Library has the news that literary boat floater Jonathan Franzen will be speaking there.

Hear author of The Corrections Jonathan Franzen talk about his work in his exclusive Canberra appearance at the National Library on Wednesday 14 September.

Franzen’s most recent novel Freedom has been acclaimed as a modern masterpiece and has confirmed his reputation as one of the leading writers of American contemporary fiction.

He is also known as a critic, cultural commentator and regular contributor to The New Yorker magazine.

Haha…
Fraaaaan-zoo!

Chambo-nnnnn!

Apparently, Franzen fights like Anne Rice.

Franzen was interesting talking about the difficulties writing a novel set in Washington DC, when everyone knows (or thinks they know) the real politicians and won’t accept fictional characters. I just wish that audience members wouldn’t gush at this sort of thing when addressing the author. It was only male questioners who did this. I wonder why Franzen had this effect?

What a coincidence – I’ve just started to read my copy of Freedom. Hope it’s as good as The Corrections.

11am on a weekday is a bit rough to fit in. But he’d be good to see and hear. ‘The Corrections’ is one of the best American novels I’ve read in the past few years. Laugh-aloud funny in parts, skin-crawl accurate at other times about the shame, guilt & irritations of family.

Because I’m an idiot.

Fixed now, thanks!

Why does the heading say Nationl Gallery?

This has made my day, month and year.
