A fire at a dry cleaner in Kingston has destroyed the store and has caused smoke damage to neighbouring shops.
Emergency services were called to Panafic Dry Cleaners on Giles Street at about 10:16 pm yesterday night (25 October), an ESA spokesperson told Region.
They said they arrived to find the store “totally engulfed” in flames.
ACT Fire and Rescue, ACT Ambulance and ACT Policing attended the scene. Eight fire trucks were present.
Crews were on scene throughout the night to control the flames, and some only left this morning. The spokesperson said the fire was finally brought under control at about 4 am.
While Giles Street is a residential area, no evacuation was required and no injuries were reported.
The spokesperson said surrounding stores have sustained smoke damage.
Fire and Rescue personnel remained on Giles Street this morning to investigate the incident and assess damage to the structure.
More to come.
