Youth Parliament is an accredited course that can count towards your year 12 certificate, and claims to teach skills in leadership, public speaking, debating, and teamwork, all of which are pretty great things to have skills in. Check it out here.
Dr Chris Bourke is urging young Canberrans, especially from the Ginninderra electorate, to take part in the 2013 YMCA ACT Youth Parliament.
“Youth Parliament is a great opportunity for you to develop skills in leadership, public speaking, debating and teamwork. This is your opportunity to have your voice heard and represent the young people of Canberra and the ACT. I encourage you to get involved,” Dr Bourke said.
“The YMCA ACT Youth Parliament is a unique chance for Canberra’s young people to experience parliamentary and legal processes, to develop leadership and advocacy skills and to build lasting friendships.
“Participants will be involved in a 2-day training camp in May, as well as ongoing activities leading up to a residential camp from 8-12 July which will see the Youth Parliamentarians take over the ACT Legislative Assembly. There they will debate important issues and draft legislation on the topics that they feel passionate about,” Dr Bourke said.
