Charity and fundraising auctions for the Canberra community

Limeys coming to Canberra.

By S4anta - 20 August 2007 0

The Construction industry in Canberra is in line for a major shake-up. There are also calls out for nurses and other medico’s, IT folk (where the chippies sons’ and daughter’s have probably ended up) and the whole gambit of finance, bean counting, cardie wearing GST freaks.

As we all know, the The Australian Government and the Master Builders Association of the ACT are developing various projects to increase the number of skilled tradespeople, including a big centre to train apprentices. However, they have been appealing to the old country to bring in skilled professionals to train the apprentices and key address core skills shortages that are beginning to emerge in the industry. Adding to the skill base which the general citizenry can access is a good thing, as many homeowners can attest. There is a severe shortage of bodies on the ground, and that is even before you add myself and my ability to get electrocuted changing a light bulb.

So, gone will be the ‘plumbers bum’ and in will be the hanky on the head, cucumber sandwiches, bland tea, over boiled vegies and a distinct lack of showers. Ladies, your Friday Afternoon drinks are about to get a whole lot more interesting…
