Property stars from across Canberra came together in black-tie finery to celebrate the contributions of passionate teams and talented individuals helping shape the ACT.

The People in Property Awards Gala is a big hitter in the local property sector’s calendar, connecting some of the industry’s best professional leaders and innovators to mark their work in the field.

Hosted by the Property Council ACT, the gala event was held at the National Convention Centre. This year’s theme was ‘The Power of People’, which recognises the importance of each individual driving Canberra’s property sector and acknowledges their contributions to the design, development, and management of buildings, spaces and places across the region.

Property Council Executive Director ACT & Capital Region Ashlee Berry said the awards were an important opportunity to shine a spotlight on the people behind the projects.

“Every day, our members contribute to the incredible development of the ACT, but too often, we reward the project itself without recognising the individuals who make it all possible,” she said.

“These awards are our way of celebrating the talent, passion and commitment of those who are creating our future.”

Ms Berry said the awarded individuals and teams demonstrated outstanding leadership, innovation and impact in the property industry. She named them as the “driving force behind the sustainable and liveable city we are building for future generations”.

The 2024 People in Property Awards celebrated individual achievements across seven categories:

  • Rising Star – Ashleigh Bujaroski, Village Building Co.
  • People First – Knight Frank Canberra

  • Industry Impact – Dean McPherson, AMC Architects

Winner of the esteemed Rising Star award, Village Building Co head of marketing & communications, Ashleigh Bujaroski, said she was thrilled and honoured as she thanked the council and judges.

“I’ve been part of the property industry from a very young age and it has been an incredible journey,” she said.

“I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to many fantastic projects over the years and witness Canberra’s growth and development first-hand.

“I am incredibly fortunate to work with such an amazing team at the Village Building Co whose support has been integral to my journey. I look forward to many more years of growth, collaboration, and contribution to the property industry.”

Always found spending the time to nominate yourself (and paying the entry fee) for an award, before then winning it, and subsequently promoting it in order to receive further praise as a weird way of boosting your own ego. Should the work you do and the people you service not be enough?

There’s nothing wrong with industry recognition for those who excel in what they do.

Being recognised by your industry’s lobby group is hardly an objective recommendation … I’d prefer an assessment from all of their clients as an indicator of excellence.

JustSaying – These awards are not for excellence in meeting client needs but for creating or enabling more revenue for their employers. The clients are the product.
