Man, 61, charged with arson over Belconnen fire yesterday

ACT Policing has arrested a 61-year-old Belconnen man following a unit fire in Belconnen that caused an estimated $400,000 in damage yesterday.

Police attended a unit complex in Belconnen following reports that a residence was well alight. The blaze was extinguished by ACT Fire and Rescue. One female occupant was transferred by the ACT Ambulance Service to The Canberra Hospital.

Following an investigation by ACT Policing, the man was arrested and conveyed to the City Police Station where he was charged with one count of arson building/vehicle and one count of acts endangering life – throw an inflammable substance.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning where police will oppose bail.
