Man to face animal cruelty, offensive weapon charges

A 37-year-old man Kambah man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Monday, 15 April 2018) charged with animal cruelty and use of an offensive weapon.

ACT Policing said that about 11 pm on Saturday (14 April 2018), police received a call about a disturbance outside a residence.

On arrival, police were told a man had stolen an acquaintance’s dogs and had harmed one of them.

The owner of the dogs had confronted the man, who allegedly pointed a firearm at him and another person. The man had allegedly made demands for a sum of money to release the animals. The animals were released and returned to the owner.

Police charged the man with cruelty to animals and three counts of use offensive weapon – dangerous to a person.
